OPP now involved in cemeteries vandalism – city to install surveillance equipment


Following another round of vandalism at Espanola Cemetery, Manitoulin’s OPP and city administration are getting involved.

In the past two months, The Moose has reported vandalism at the cemetery.

Several residents contacted the radio yesterday morning to report further destruction.

Following contact with the city, City Clerk Joseph Burke said the matter had been reported to the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police for further investigation and that Public Works was cleaning up the site as much as possible. ‘they could.

He also states that the recent vandalism at the cemetery has been incredibly disappointing and sad to see. He adds that the city is installing a surveillance system to help the police identify the perpetrators.

Burke also encourages the public to contact either the municipal office or the Ontario Provincial Police if they have information about the incidents.
