Burglary and theft caught on New Bedford pizzeria surveillance camera – New Bedford Guide

A pizzeria on Acushnet Avenue was robbed and had money stolen from the cash register on Tuesday and everything was monitored.

‘All Around Pizza’ at 1634 Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford was visited by a thief on a weekday when they are closed. The thief entered by breaking the glass door, then went to the cash register and took about $600.

Owner Lukas Quintin is puzzled because despite the destructive way the thief broke into the business, it didn’t set off the alarm. A check of the alarm system showed that it was working properly. Additionally, the camera above the door shows a figure approaching the door, then cuts out for 2 minutes, before the camera above the cash register detects the theft. Quintin is the only person with the video password and he employs his family, so he ruled out an inside job.

Puzzled that the alarm was not activating, Quintin asked the technician from the alarm company to come and perform a diagnostic check on the system. The check revealed no issues and showed that at no time had anyone turned off the alarm. It just never kicked in.

Quintin said replacing the glass door and the stolen cash is a serious setback, an amount that equates to about a week’s worth of inventory. “I work day and night to make a living,” Quintin said. “We are good for the neighborhood. Is this what people do in the business of someone who works hard to succeed? ! Why find a job when flying is easier? It’s sad. I don’t understand why people would want to walk into a pizza place, it’s not like we have a lot of valuables. I can’t make up my mind. »
