The Border Security Force (BSF) has deployed additional troops along with anti-fog monitoring equipment to the international border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir as part of its ”winter strategy” to thwart the Undercover deals and terrorist plans ahead of Republic Day celebrations, officials said Friday.

BSF troops guarding the 200 km International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir have been put on high alert to ensure a high degree of security against infiltrating terrorists.

”We have mobilized troops along the border. Additional troops have been deployed with surveillance equipment along IB due to foggy weather and Republic Day celebrations,’ a senior officer told PTI.

He said night dominance operations and exercises have increased along the border which experiences thick fog during winters.

Officials pointed out that terrorists were using the fog as a cover to infiltrate and said the winter strategy that had been put in place included measures to deal with the security configuration during the foggy season.

Troops have filled all the gaps in the river areas of Ujh, Bansantar and Chenab, they said.

Measures to enhance security along the IB were taken in preparation for the Republic Day celebrations.

Police have also set up several checkpoints on roads leading to the border and tightened controls, they said.
