Botanical Ingredients for Respiratory and Immune Health to be Launched by Unigen at Natural Products Expo West 2022

Two new botanical ingredients, one for respiratory health and one for immune health, will debut at Unigen Inc. (Tacoma, WA) at next week’s Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, CA. The company will be exhibiting at booth #3775.

Attenutin is a brand new ingredient to support respiratory health. It contains two different types of bioflavonoids derived from the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis (also known as skullcap) and the heartwood of Acacia Catechism. The company claims these ingredients are clinically proven to support innate and adaptive immunity while supporting IgA and IgG antibody production and healthy cytokine levels.

Unigen CEO and Chief Scientific Officer Qi Jia, PhD explained in a press release why the company decided to develop this ingredient. “Since early 2020, Unigen has reoriented its R&D activity towards immune and respiratory health. We have evaluated hundreds of bioflavonoids in our PhytoLogix library and historical data on maintaining healthy levels of an alarmin protein called HMGB1, which has been shown to support and protect respiratory system immune function. The company claims that Attenutin has been clinically shown to increase glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) levels through its strong antioxidant activity. It can be paired with ingredients like vitamin C and zinc for short-term use during seasons of immune stress, the firm says.

The second ingredient, Symetrian, is a standardized composition of aloe vera polysaccharides, poria cocos sclerotia extract and rosemary leaf extracts believed to maintain healthy immune system homeostasis. The company claims that Symetrian has been clinically proven to promote the production of circulating gamma delta TCRγδ+ T cells, “suggesting its heightened immune surveillance at gateways.”

The company states in the press release, “Symetrian has been clinically shown to increase antioxidant capacity through elevated levels of glutathione peroxidase. In the second rapid immune modulation clinical trial, a single oral dose showed progressive activation of lymphocytes (NKT cells, NK cells; cytotoxic T cells, γδ-T cells) over a three-hour period in the blood where the percentage changes of activation were found [to be] statistically significant compared to placebo. Symetrian is suitable as a year-round, long-term dietary supplement for all populations.
